Moving forward in Nigeria, every aspiring politician in any region of the country should obtain a license if they wish to participate in politics.

We live in an era where the decisions made by political leaders have a significant impact on people’s lives. It is imperative that the individuals who hold power and make decisions that affect the masses are well-equipped with the necessary skills and ethical standards. However, it is often the case that people in positions of power lack the requisite qualifications and character traits essential for effective leadership. Hence, it is time to push the idea of licensing anybody that will be participating in politics in all arms of Nigeria. Be it clubs, associations , local government, state or country
In order to ensure that only competent and morally upright individuals are allowed to participate in politics, every individual willing to take on political roles should be required to undergo a psychometric evaluation and competency test. This will serve as a means to assess the individual’s intellectual and emotional qualities, as well as their leadership abilities and ethical standards. The test will help to identify individuals with the right temperament, skills, and character traits necessary for effective and responsible leadership.
Furthermore, in addition to passing the psychometric evaluation and competency test, individuals seeking to participate in politics should be required to obtain a certified political license. This license would serve as proof that the individual has successfully met the necessary criteria and is deemed fit to hold political office. By implementing a licensing system, Nigeria can ensure that only qualified individuals are allowed to participate in politics, thus raising the standards of political leadership in the country.
Moreover, individuals willing to serve as political leaders should also indemnify their actions with an insurance cover. This insurance cover would provide financial protection for citizens should a political leader engage in unethical or unlawful behavior that harms the general public. Political leaders who are held accountable for their actions are more likely to act in the best interest of the people they serve, and an insurance cover will provide an added layer of protection for the citizens of Nigeria.
The idea of licensing individuals participating in politics is not a new one. Many professions, such as doctors, engineers, and lawyers, require individuals to obtain a license to practice. This ensures that only qualified and ethical individuals are allowed to work in these fields. Similarly, a licensing system for political leaders would help to raise the standards of political leadership, ultimately benefiting the entire nation.
By requiring political leaders to obtain a license, undergo a psychometric evaluation and competency test, and indemnify their actions with an insurance cover, Nigeria can significantly raise the bar for political leadership. This will help to ensure that only individuals with the right qualifications, temperament, and ethical standards are allowed to hold political office, ultimately leading to better governance and improved quality of life for the citizens of Nigeria.
Some may argue that implementing such a system would be overly bureaucratic and hinder the democratic process. However, it is important to recognize that the role of political leaders is of utmost importance, and the consequences of electing unqualified or unethical individuals can be severe. By setting higher standards for political leadership, Nigeria can ensure that only the most qualified and morally upright individuals are allowed to hold political office.
In conclusion, the idea of licensing individuals participating in politics, through a psychometric evaluation and test along with an insurance cover, is essential for raising the standards of political leadership in Nigeria. By implementing such a system, Nigeria can ensure that only the most qualified and ethical individuals are allowed to hold political office, ultimately leading to better governance and a brighter future for the nation.
